The Pattern Guide.
We’ve named the patterns; now we need to understand them. And not in the abstract, but how they personally play out in our lives. This is one of the more challenging things to do, but also the most worthwhile.
Once you see your pattern clearly, it starts to lose its power over you.
-
These patterns (whether you have one or three) are not character flaws.
Every single one developed for a reason: to keep us safe, functional, and help navigate things that felt too big handle at that time.
They are intelligent adaptations, not failures of will or weakness of character. After all, they got us here, to the now. -
If we want to live more authentically, freely, and frankly, just bigger lives, we need to let these patterns go.
What once saved us is now the very thing holding us back.
We need to consciously override them, to turn off the alarms, and stop running. We’re not fixing what's broken, we’re updating what's outdated.
It doesn’t require a dramatic overhaul either. These patterns shift through small, consistent steps. Life can genuinely look and feel different from where you're standing now, and you don’t have to blow everything up to get there. -
Exercises in this guide might read insultingly simple, but starting might be surprisingly hard.
Here's why: our patterns live in our nervous systems and our egos have built an entire operating system (aka our identity) around it. So when we try to do something different, even something small, both resist. The ego wants to protect our identity, and the nervous system wants to protect against the unfamiliar.
So if you find yourself resisting, it’s normal. Have patience, have grace, and keep returning to it. Just don’t stop because this resistance is proof you’re on the right track. And here’s a hack: it’s easier to do with someone else. Confide in a trusted friend, your therapist, or reach out to me. We’ll help.
Read your pattern through.
Sit with it.
Do the exercises.
Take note when something shifts.
And when you’re ready…
